Bravery

Image
The truth is, life will amaze you in the most stunning ways, and it will also break  your heart. Life will gift you the kinds of lessons that grow you and build you and help for you to bloom into the person you have always hoped to be, but it will also carry within it the kinds of losses that stay with you, that change you and mold you in uncomfortable ways. Life will demand for you to do the work, for you to understand  yourself, for you to heal even when it hurts. For you to be brave, for you to fight for yourself. At the end of the day, bravery isn't a battlefield. It isn't fast cars, or stunned risk. Bravery is the quietest thing you will ever know. Bravery is getting up in the morning  when your bones are heavy and heart does not want the light to crack within it. Bravery is leaning into what aches, it is looking it in the face, giving it a nam...

Healing

Image
Healing is uncomfortable. It is a long journey. It is upwards and downwards and taking 5 steps forward and 3 step back. It involves tears and pain and lots of struggle-but it gives you so much back. Lessons. Growth. Wisdom. Closure. Healing isn't like the process of an external scar being replaced with new skin. It's more like a broken ceramic glass being glued together with love, lessons and people.  You will heal through broken hearts and healthy relationships. You will heal through jobs and careers and friendships. You will heal as you adventure through life. You will heal as you leave the country, start a new adventure and give up an old love.  You will keep healing and healing. And it probably won't stop even when you're older. You will just get wiser. You will just get stronger. Healing won't act as an anesthetic that makes you numb. Instead, it will bring the pain to you and teach you how to live with it. That's what healing will do.         ...

Patterns

Image
memories follow such old patterns. I don't remember what i had for dinner last night, but i remember sitting in my first- grade classroom, listening to my grey-haired teacher talk about flames. "be careful", she said, " they look pretty when they flicker but they can easily become a fire.' years have passed since then, but it's a lesson that has never left me. it comes back in the form of a perfectly timed raindrop that rolls lazily down my spine just seconds before the sound of thunder. years have passed and this pattern has somehow found its way to people too. my eyes drowsily trace around his fingertips and suddenly i am that same little girl sitting cross-legged on the classroom floor wondering. will things always be most beautiful night before they destroy you?

You've left out the sun

Image
Our lives are one big puzzle, We don't know how many pieces we've got, There are people that fit in quite nicely, And people who try but do not, We're constantly adding more pieces, All the memories of things we've been through, We add laughter and tears and adventure, And the lessons we've learnt to be true, Everyone has their own puzzle, There will be ones where you do not fit, Don't you ever dare make your piece smaller, Just so you can live there for a bit, If you keep cutting off all your edges, One day you won't recognize what you see, And you'll forget the person you once were, Before the world told you who you should be, Make the most of each piece in your puzzle, It'll be a grand masterpiece when it's done, So you won't have to look back when it's over And realize you've left out the sun
